Hardy Volunteer Fire Company is a community-driven organization dedicated to protecting lives, property, and the environment in Hardy, Virginia and the surrounding areas of Bedford and Franklin Counties. Our team of over a dozen dedicated volunteer firefighters and civilian support staff respond around the clock to fire emergencies, medical calls, and hazardous situations — all without compensation, driven solely by commitment to our community.
Fire Suppression
Rapid response to structure fires, wildland fires, and fire-related emergencies throughout our coverage area.
Emergency Response
First-response support for medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, and hazmat situations.
Community Support
Engaging residents through dedicated volunteering, community outreach, and reliable emergency readiness.
BACKGROUND
The Hardy Volunteer Fire Company is a rural fire department located in Bedford County, VA since the early 1970s.
Hardy 12 provides first-due response to both Bedford and Franklin Counties. The area of primary responsibility ranges from rural and urban interface, including commercial, residential and wildland environments. This varied topography has allowed our company to become a diverse and flexible department capable of a wide range of fire and rescue skill sets. These include (but are not limited to):
- Structural Firefighting
- Wild Land Fire suppression
- Vehicle Extrication
- S.O.C.- Special Operations Command (Trench, Confined Space, etc)
- HAZMAT Operations
- Heavy Equipment and Farm Extrication
- LP Gas Suppression and Containment
- Basic and Advanced Life Support Certified Members
Over the years of service and operation, the department has seen a steady growth in population served and response requirements respectively. In addition, the demand for fire and rescue service is increased during summer months as Smith Mountain Lake is a thriving and expanding recreation location within Bedford and Franklin Counties.
The need for ever evolving protection and service to the community of Hardy, VA and its adjoining areas is one that will be served successfully for many more years to come by the Hardy Volunteer Fire Company!
I would personally like to thank every single person on scene for all you did! I am well aware of the high risk you all take to enter a burning building not to mention the intense heat that the day temperatures brought! I know so many of you risked your lives to attempt to save what you could yesterday. This was where my daughter was renting so thank you thank you thank you!!
