Our Mission
Neighbors Protecting Neighbors
Hardy Volunteer Fire Company is a community-driven organization dedicated to protecting lives, property, and the environment in Hardy, Virginia and the surrounding areas of Bedford and Franklin Counties. Our team of over a dozen dedicated volunteer firefighters and civilian support staff respond around the clock to fire emergencies, medical calls, and hazardous situations β all without compensation, driven solely by commitment to our community.
Fire Suppression
Rapid response to structure fires, wildland fires, and fire-related emergencies throughout our coverage area.
Emergency Response
First-response support for medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, and hazmat situations.
Community Service
Fire prevention education, community outreach, and mutual aid partnerships with neighboring departments.

Hardy Volunteer Fire Company is actively recruiting new members. No prior experience is required β we provide all training, equipment, and certifications. Whether you want to serve on the front lines as a firefighter or support our operations from behind the scenes, there's a place for you at Station 12.
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Resident or worker in Hardy/Bedford and Franklin Counties area
- Ability to pass a background check
- Commitment to complete basic training and certifications
- Willingness to respond to emergency calls

Our Equipment
Hardy VFC Apparatus
Our fleet is maintained to NFPA standards, ensuring our crew has the tools they need to protect Hardy and our neighboring communities.
Engine 12
Our primary engine company, first due on motor vehicle accidents, technical rescues, and medical support calls. Carries 1,000 gallons of water, a 1,500 GPM pump, extrication equipment, and a full complement of attack lines and rescue tools.
Wagon 12
Our primary structural firefighting unit, first due on structure fires throughout our coverage area. Carries 1,000 gallons of water, a 1,500 GPM pump, ground ladders, forcible entry tools, and a full complement of attack lines.
Tanker 12
Rural water supply is critical in our coverage area. Our tanker carries 2,500 gallons and is equipped for rapid drop-tank operations to establish portable water supply at remote incidents.
Brush 12
A light-attack brush truck built for wildland interface incidents and terrain where our larger apparatus cannot safely operate. Carries 250 gallons and a high-pressure pump.
Utility 12
Our versatile utility vehicle supports scene logistics, equipment transport, and personnel movement. Used for support operations, rehab, and auxiliary response across our coverage area.
